US launches Green Group

Summary

In an effort to encourage broader awareness of environmental sustainability, the US recently established a new Green Group to promote mindfulness through volunteerism and other initiatives that will help reduce the firm’s environmental impact in the region.

In line with multiple efforts across the firm – from both a sustainable investing and local office perspective (Frankfurt, UK and Asia Pacific, for example) – Green Group members will be working to implement a more eco-friendly approach across all US locations. This includes actively exploring options to make our workplaces more environmentally sound, providing volunteer opportunities that support these efforts, and educating employees on importance of making small changes at work and home to support sustainability.

“As many New York employees know, I’m a big tea drinker and it’s always out of a reusable, steel mug to reduce my own contribution to plastic pollution,” said Doug Eu, CEO US. “Environmental consciousness is important to me personally, and I’m proud to work for a firm that is actively prioritizing these issues through initiatives such as our SeaCleaners partnership and regional efforts like the new US Green Group. There are many simple changes we can all make to our daily routines in support of sustainability.”

Along these lines, the group will first be focused on reducing single-use plastic items in the US offices. To kick things off and engage our local employees, the Green Group is currently collaborating with the local Charitable Giving resource groups to support World Cleanup Day, one of the largest civic movements for the environment. In 2018, more than 18 million people across 157 countries and territories volunteered for World Cleanup Day. This year the US will be taking part along with other global Allianz operating entities, with each office hosting separate events on or around 21 September.
