Our London office has launched a campaign to encourage the reduction of single-use plastic.
43% of all marine litter polluting our oceans is made up of just 10 types of single-use plastic items - these include food containers, take-away beverage cups and lids, cutlery, packets and wrappers, beverage bottles and carrier bags. Whilst every effort is made by Allianz Global Investors to ensure that we have the most efficient waste management/ recycling system and processes in place, there is always more we can do.
In a bid to help reduce the amount of single-use plastic (SUPs), ‘Plastic-Free Tuesdays’ encourages colleagues in our London office to think about their single-use plastic consumption. They will be encouraged to eliminate single-use plastics every Tuesday, with the longer-term aim for colleagues to move more broadly from single-use consumption to multi-use consumption.
Tips include carrying a reusable water bottle; buying lunch without a plastic container or bringing in your own Tupperware; and saying no to disposable cutlery! Making just a few small changes can have a big impact on the amount of plastic we use on a day-to-day basis.
Sustainable investing has been a part of our DNA for nearly 20 years. As an active, long-term investor, we are proud to play an active role in combatting the scourge of plastic pollution across our business. Let’s all focus on reducing, reusing, recycling and eliminating as much unnecessary plastic as possible.
